US steel mill shipments rise in October

NEW YORK — U.S. steel mills shipped 8.29 million net tons in October, up 5.2 percent from the previous month, American Iron and Steel Institute data show.

That figure is also up 11.5 percent from 7.43 million tons in October 2012.

Shipments of hot-dipped galvanized sheet and strip climbed 8 percent from September, cold-rolled sheet rose 7 percent and hot-rolled sheet gained 1 percent.

Shipments of 80.19 million tons in the first 10 months of the year fell 1.1 percent from 81.07 million tons in the same 2012 period.
