NEW YORK — Northwest Pipe Co. has acquired steel piping fabricator Permalok Corp., St. Louis, for an undisclosed amount.

"Permalok’s interlocking pipe joining system complements and expands Northwest Pipe’s offerings by providing alternate joint solutions to the already comprehensive product line," the Vancouver, Wash.-based company said Jan. 2. "The acquisition also strengthens Northwest Pipe’s water transmission business with Permalok’s rolled and welded steel pipe products currently being used in trenchless applications."

Permalok has manufacturing locations in St. Louis and Salt Lake City. The St. Louis plant can make up to 15,000 tons of pipe annually, according to Permalok’s website.

Northwest Pipe, which makes water transmission pipe and energy tubulars, did not return a request for further comment.

Beyond the Permalok acquisition, the company said it also "sees opportunities to expand in other segments," such as structural and industrial pipe, as well as further growth in the water transmission business.
