NEW YORK Higher steel prices have prompted Allied Tube & Conduit Corp., a division of Atkore International Holdings Inc., to increase tags for fence, mechanical and sprinkler pipe products.
Fence framework prices are slated to rise by 5 percent effective Jan. 7 "due to the continued rise in hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel prices in the market," the Harvey, Ill.-based company said in a Jan. 3 letter to customers. Orders placed prior to the end of business Jan. 6 will be price protected for shipments no later than Jan. 14.
Meanwhile, Allied Tube increased all sprinkler pipe products by 4 to 6 percent effective Jan. 6, with orders placed by the end of the day Jan. 3 price protected.
"Further increases are anticipated, and it is recommended escalation be included in all project estimates," the company said.
The companys Tectron Tube division plans to raise prices for mechanical tube products by $60 per ton ($3 per hundredweight) effective with shipments after Jan. 13.
"Buoyed in part by increased steel consumption within the automotive sector and a decrease in domestic steelmaking capacity, global steel prices in general are now trending higher as economic conditions worldwide continue to improve," the company said.
