Evraz hikes steel plate by $20/T

NEW YORK — Evraz Inc. North America increased its minimum prices on plate products by $20 per ton effective Jan. 3.

The increase applied to all carbon, high-strength low-alloy, normalized, and quenched and tempered products, it said in a letter to customers.

The Chicago-based steelmaker did not give a reason for the increase, and market participants said it wasn’t immediately clear whether it was a new attempt to boost prices or following increases by competitors in late December ( amm.com, Dec. 13).

In October, the company announced that it would idle its Claymont, Del., plate facility due to subdued market conditions and high levels of imports ( amm.com, Oct. 14).
