Evraz hikes steel plate by $20/T

NEW YORK — Evraz Inc. North America increased its minimum prices on plate products by $20 per ton effective Jan. 3.

The increase applied to all carbon, high-strength low-alloy, normalized, and quenched and tempered products, it said in a letter to customers.

The Chicago-based steelmaker did not give a reason for the increase, and market participants said it wasn’t immediately clear whether it was a new attempt to boost prices or following increases by competitors in late December (, Dec. 13).

In October, the company announced that it would idle its Claymont, Del., plate facility due to subdued market conditions and high levels of imports (, Oct. 14).
