NEW YORK — Gallatin Steel Co. and North American Stainless Inc. (NAS) have signed 10-year natural gas service agreements with Carrollton Utilities, Carrollton, Ky., starting in 2016.

The long-term agreements are the result of "an opportunity to obtain capacity on (Boardwalk Pipeline Partners LP’s) Texas Gas (Transmission LLC system), which is the interstate pipeline that serves our utility," Carrollton Utilities general manager Bill Osborne told AMM.

"We have always purchased our natural gas from Carrollton Utilities. We just recently extended that agreement through 2026," an NAS spokeswoman told AMM in an e-mail.

Gallatin Steel, Ghent, Ky., a joint venture between ArcelorMittal USA Inc. and Gerdau Long Steel North America, has an annual capacity of 1.4 million tons of hot bands, according to the company’s website.

NAS, also based in Ghent, makes stainless flat and long products. It is the largest fully integrated stainless steel producer in the United States, according to its website.

Arcelor and Gerdau did not return requests for comment.
