LOS ANGELES Airbus Americas is looking to fill the initial manufacturing positions for its Mobile, Ala., plant in a program that could include on-the-job training in Europe or China.
The Toulouse, France-based aircraft builder said it has launched the "first wave" of hiring for its first U.S. assembly facility. The plant, which will build the companys A320 single-aisle airliner, is slated to open in 2015.
Successful applicants for the positions, which include mechanics and installers, will participate in a two-week state-sponsored training program and then have the opportunity to start on-the-job training at Airbus plants in Toulouse, Hamburg and possibly Tianjin, China, according to Airbus.
Starting pay rates for the positions range from $13 to $22 per hour, plus benefits.
