SHANGHAI — Central China’s Wuhan Iron & Steel (Group) Corp. (Wisco) is modernizing the coiler in its No. 2 hot strip mill to expand its range of high-strength steel products.

The mill is being upgraded by Düsseldorf, Germany-based engineering company SMS Siemag AG, which originally supplied the equipment in 2003. At the time, it was China’s first hot strip mill with a strip width of more than 2,000 millimeters (78.7 inches).

The revamped mill will be able to wind tube grades of strength class X100 up to a thickness of 20 mm (0.8 inch) starting in the spring of 2015, SMS Siemag said.
