Cliffs’ Halverson replacing Carrabba on AISI’s board

NEW YORK — The American Iron and Steel Institute has elected Gary B. Halverson to its 23-member board of directors.

Halverson, who was appointed chief executive officer of Cleveland-based Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. last week ( amm.com, Feb. 13), replaces Joseph Carrabba, Cliffs’ former president and chief executive officer, on the Washington-based trade group’s board.

"Gary’s longtime leadership in the metals and mining industry brings an important perspective to our board and helps preserve our continued partnership with the mining sector on our critical shared issues," AISI president and chief executive officer Thomas J. Gibson said in a statement Feb. 17.

The AISI also recently named to the board Saikat Dey, chief executive officer of Severstal North America Inc., Dearborn, Mich.; Jim Baske, president and chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Dofasco Inc., Hamilton, Ontario; and Victor Cairo, chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Mexico SA de CV.
