NEW YORK — Just days after the financial close of ThyssenKrupp AG’s Calvert, Ala., facility, joint buyers ArcelorMittal SA and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. (NSSMC) have renamed the facility AM/NS Calvert.

The red and white logo represents the colors of the Alabama flag, ArcelorMittal chairman and chief executive officer Lakshmi N. Mittal said in a statement.

"We very much hope that AM/NS Calvert will become synonymous with the highest-quality products and will build a strong reputation for Calvert—this plant and this town—with all our customers and stakeholders," he added.

Chris Richards, currently president of the I/N Tek LP and I/N Kote LP joint ventures in New Carlisle, Ind., has been named president of the Calvert facility.

Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal and NSSMC, Tokyo, closed their acquisition of ThyssenKrupp’s Calvert facility Feb. 26 (, Feb. 26). Germany’s ThyssenKrupp announced the sale of its $1.55-billion facility to the companies in the fall (, Dec. 1).
