LONDON — Arch Coal Inc. chairman Steven F. Leer will retire from the company’s board following a shareholders’ meeting April 24.

Wesley M. Taylor will succeed Leer as chairman, the company said Feb. 28.

Leer served as Arch’s chief executive officer from 1997 to 2012 and as president of Arch Mineral Corp., a predecessor company, from 1992 to 1997. He was elected chairman in 2006.

Taylor, who joined Arch’s board in 2005, was elected as lead independent director in 2013. Prior to joining the board, he was president of TXU Generation for 13 years and president of Dallas Power & Light for three years during his 38-year tenure with TXU.

The St. Louis-based coal producer also named Paul A. Lang, executive vice president and chief operating officer, to the board effective immediately.
