PITTSBURGH — Upstate Shredding LLC-Ben Weitsman & Son Inc. has purchased an auto salvage and metals recycling facility in Irving, N.Y., locking up another source to supply its auto shredder.

The Owego, N.Y.-based recycler has purchased Brant Auto Parts Inc. for an undisclosed sum. Brant was established in 2003 and purchases ferrous and nonferrous scrap.

"This location is perfect for our western expansion plans as we continue to build out our footprint and acquire yards that are strategically located in the Northeast," according to Upstate Shredding president Adam Weitsman.

This marks the company’s third purchase this year, and brings its ownership to 18 facilities. Brant Auto Parts’ management will remain with the company.

"We have had a number of suitors looking to acquire our yard as we have continued to grow over the last 10 years. This business has been a fixture in our community and it was very important to us that whomever we considered selling to had the same community focus that we do," Brant Auto Parts founder Tim Dodson said in a statement.
