US raw steel production slides 1.1 percent

NEW YORK — U.S. raw steel output totaled an estimated 1,840,000 net tons last week, down 1.1 percent from 1,861,000 tons the previous week, as mills operated at an average capacity utilization rate of 76.5 percent.

In the corresponding week last year, mills produced 1,827,000 tons at an average capacity utilization rate of 76.2 percent, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute, Washington.

Mills have produced 17,551,000 tons so far this year at an average capacity utilization rate of 76.5 percent, down 0.8 percent from 17,699,000 tons at an average capacity utilization rate of 77 percent in the same period last year.
