NEW YORK — Abakan Inc. and project partner Northern Alberta Institute of Technology have received $2.75 million in funding from Canadian agencies to build a prototype facility for developing, testing and commercializing wear-resistant clad pipe and components.

“Our objective in Alberta is to fast-track the commercialization of our CermaClad long-life, wear-resistant clad pipes and components,” Abakan chief executive officer Robert Miller said in a statement March 11. “Once our products are adopted in Alberta, we anticipate acceptance for mining applications around the globe.”

The Miami-based company also is ramping up production of its pipe-coating materials at its MesoCoat Coating Services Inc. subsidiary in Euclid, Ohio (, Nov. 25).
