PITTSBURGH — Sims Brothers Recycling has promoted Scott Knowles to chief executive officer, succeeding Gary Sims.

Knowles, who will manage day-to-day operations at the company’s four facilities as well as develop and implement corporate strategy, most recently was vice president of regulatory affairs and compliance, general counsel.

Sims will remain president and chairman of the board at the Marion, Ohio-based recycler.

“Sims Brothers Recycling is a family business, and I’m delighted to have my son-in-law, Scott, take the reins of the company at this time. He is well respected by his co-workers because of his own unique blend of experience, personality, drive and spirit,” Sims said in a statement.

Knowles is an attorney who spent a decade with a law firm specializing in insurance litigation before joining the recycling company.
