New Star Metals acquires coater

NEW YORK — New Star Metals Inc. has acquired Material Sciences Corp. (MSC), which specializes in electrogalvanizing and coil coating of flat-rolled steel and aluminum.

“The addition of MSC to our company enhances our strategy to participate in the lightweighting of automobiles to meet pending Cafe (corporate average fuel economy) standards,” Michael Noble, chief commercial officer of Burr Ridge, Ill.-based New Star Metals, said in a statement. “With our ability to coat ultra-high-strength steel and aluminum as well as laminates and composites, we have a unique product and services offering.”

Elk Grove Village, Ill.-based MSC also is a producer of acoustical products used in brakes, body panels and engine components.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
