PITTSBURGH — A division of Upstate Shredding LLC-Ben Weitsman & Sons Inc. is advancing its plan to install an auto shredder at the Port of Albany, N.Y.

The city’s Board of Zoning Appeals will consider Ben Weitsman of Albany LLC’s request for a special-use permit for its Albany facility at a public hearing April 9, according to a legal notice.

Owego, N.Y.-based Upstate Shredding is seeking to install a Wendt Corp. Model M6090 shredder powered by a 2,500-horsepower DC motor with three separation systems downstream to capture the nonferrous scrap.

The recycler operates on 30 acres at the port after leasing a second parcel earlier this year (amm.com, Feb. 24).
