NEW YORK — A woman was taken into custody after reportedly throwing a shoe at Hillary Clinton during a speech at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries’ annual convention in Las Vegas, according to media reports.

The incident took place just moments after the former U.S. Secretary of State reached the podium.

Mark Carpenter, director of media relations for ISRI, told the Las Vegas Sun that the woman wasn’t with the convention and shouldn’t have been inside.

Witnesses said Clinton was discussing a solid waste management program that the Clinton Foundation has initiated in India when the object flew her way. Clinton ducked, and didn’t appear to be hit by the object.

"I didn’t know solid waste management was so contentious," Clinton was quoted as saying by a witness. "Thank God she is not as good at softball as I was."

Clinton received a standing ovation for her unfazed reaction and continued with her keynote address.

"We saw a blonde girl running down the aisle," one gentleman who was seated near the front of the room told AMM.  "The shoe went first, then the papers flew everywhere. She didn't say anything... The shoe went right by (Clinton). I heard it hit the stage."

"I saw a bunch of papers come flying past me," one woman who was also seated near the stage told AMM. "They didn't go far." She described the young woman who threw the objects as a "small blonde girl," adding that the papers thrown mentioned " some kind of chemical thing."

The incident is reminiscent of a 2008 incident in Baghdad, when a pair of shoes was hurled at then-President George W. Bush.

She should of never been allowed to speak in front of our organization. Especially after her involvement with Benghazi.
