PITTSBURGH Local officials in Riverhead, N.Y., have voted to take legal action against Gershow Recycling Corp. for allegedly violating its scope of business.
The town board of Riverhead approved a resolution to authorize legal action against the recyclers facility, which has received noise complaints from neighbors.
Officials believe the recycler, which purchased the property several years ago, is in violation of its site and use permits, according to a town spokeswoman. The town plans to seek a restraining order in the near future while the matter plays out in court.
The spokeswoman confirmed that when Medford, N.Y.-based Gershow Recycling purchased the site and took over operations it was never asked to submit a site plan or file any sort of application.
The company could not be reached for comment.
