NEW YORK — Victory Nickel Inc. has applied for an amendment to the environmental license for its Minago nickel project in central Manitoba that would relocate the mine’s tailings impoundment "to an area much more suitable than previously proposed," the company said April 30.

"This latest revision is one of the most significant of various improvements which will be implemented when we develop the nickel mine, and is very timely given the recent improvement in the price of nickel," president and chief operating officer Steve Harapiak said in a statement.

The Minago open-pit mine is expected to produce about 110 million pounds of nickel annually for nine years, the Toronto-based company said.
