O’Neal unit earns P&W laser OK

LOS ANGELES — United Performance Metals Inc. has received "laser beam metal removal" approval from aircraft engine builder Pratt & Whitney Corp. (P&W).

United Performance Metals is now qualified to supply laser-cut blanks to suppliers of East Hartford, Conn.-based P&W, a unit of United Technologies Corp., Hartford, Conn.

United Performance Metals, the Hamilton, Ohio-based unit of O’Neal Industries Inc., Birmingham, Ala., processes stainless steel, nickel alloys and cobalt alloys, including 17-4 and 17-7 precipitation hardening stainless grades, 625 and 718 nickel-based superalloys and 188 and L605 cobalt alloys.
