Steel shipments, output fall in ’13

NEW YORK — U.S. steel shipments totaled 95 million tons in 2013, down 1 percent from the previous year, although shipments were 11 percent higher than the most recent five-year average of 86 million tons, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute’s annual statistical report.

"Construction and automotive continue to be the largest markets for steel," the AISI said.

U.S. raw steel production totaled 96 million tons last year, down 2 percent from 2012.
