CHICAGO ArcelorMittal USA LLC has raised plate prices, effective immediately, the company said in an Aug. 21 letter to customers.
Prices for carbon as-rolled plate will rise by $30 per ton ($1.50 per hundredweight), while those for alloy and heated-treated plate will increase by $40 per ton ($2 per cwt), the Chicago-based subsidiary of Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal SA said.
The move came as ArcelorMittal said it had opened its books to accept orders slated to be produced and delivered in November.
The increase followed a similar move on plate by Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor Corp. (amm.com, Aug. 18 and was followed by SSAB Americas, which is boosting non-contract plate prices on all orders scheduled to ship the week of Nov. 2.
The Lisle, Ill.-based steelmaker, a subsidiary of Stockholm-based SSAB AB, said it was increasing prices on as-rolled mill plate, cut-to-length plate more than 72-inches wide and hot-rolled coils more than 72-inches wide by a minimum of $1.50 per cwt ($30 per ton), according to a customer letter dated Aug. 22.
