China’s refined copper output rose 9.6 percent in June from the previous month to a record 422,000 tonnes as smelters shrugged off falling copper prices and an uncertain economic outlook. Average daily production of 14,100 tonnes was up more than 25 percent from a year ago, according to figures from the national statistics bureau. Smelters were still able to turn a profit based on contracted treatment and refining charges (TC/RCs), while higher domestic production may have offset a fall in imports during last month, market participants said. “The high figure indicates smelters are running smoothly, and based on the annual copper treatment and refining charges domestic smelters can still turn a profit,” a trader at Dongya Futures Co., Shanghai, said.
