Salvage yard Kirksville Recycling, formerly Recycle-It, Kirksville, Mo., is facing potential charges of violating of the state’s Clean Water Law after failing four inspections since August 2008, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said. While conducting on-site reviews, DNR staff claim they noticed exposed oil-laden parts and oil stain and battery casings leaking onto the ground, along with unmarked and unsealed drums and buckets filled with waste vehicle fluids. The DNR, which also accuses the recycler of failing to submit a stormwater pollution prevention plan, has referred the case to the state attorney general’s office. The recycler could not be reached for comment.

Arrow Electronics Inc. has signed a deal to acquire electronics recycler Intechra LLC of Jackson, Miss. The terms of the sale were not disclosed, and the deal is expected to close by year-end. Intechra has 300 employees and posted $75 million in sales for 2009. “Intechra serves as a continuation of our strategy to provide comprehensive services across the entire product lifecycle for our suppliers and customers,” Michael J. Long, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Melville, N.Y.-based Arrow, said.

Indian ferrous scrap import prices have fallen in line with lower steel tags and reduced demand, market sources said. Small volumes of containerized shredded fetched $410 to $415 per tonne delivered to the Indian port of Nhava Sheva this past week, down from $415 to $420 a week earlier. An 80-20 mix of No. 1 and No. 2 heavy melting scrap was at $395 to $400 per tonne, down from $395 to $405 in the same comparison. With 150,000 tonnes of unsold scrap en route to Chennai, South India, in bulk vessels, Indian buyers don’t want to pay current international prices, one trader said. “They are waiting for the vessels to arrive,” he said. “The Indian market seems to be softening a bit,” a second trader agreed. But limited supply means buyers might soon have to pay more to secure cargoes. “EU suppliers do not have enough feedstock for sales on hand,” the second trader said. U.S. offers for December-delivery shredded scrap have reached $430 per tonne delivered to Nhava Sheva, traders said.
