LED THE NUCOR PROJECT TEAM AS IT RELATED TO THE COMPANY'S ENTRY INTO FASTENER BUSINESS. WAS ASSIGNED THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND MANAGEMENT OF SAID FACILITY.
PROJECT AND OPERATIONS MANAGER FOR NUCOR'S NEW HIGH TECHNOLOGY SHEET STEEL DIVISION IN CRAWFORDSVILLE, INDIANA THAT EMPLOYED THE WORLD'S FIRST THIN SLAB CASTER. THIS WAS THE FIRST FLAT-ROLLED GREENFIELD FACILITY BUILT IN THIS COUNTRY IN 25 YEARS. IT EMPLOYED STATE OF THE ART STEELMAKING EQUIPMENT AND PLC CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES. ITS CAPITAL COSTS WERE 25% OF PREVIOUS NORMS. IT CONSUMES FAR LESS ENERGY, AND IT IS ENVIRONMENTALLY CLEANER. IT HAS SET WORLD RECORDS FOR LOW-COST PRODUCTION. THE MAN-HOURS UTILIZED PER TON OF PRIME STEEL PRODUCED HAVE BEEN DRAMATICALLY CUT FROM THE CURRENT LEVEL IN THE INDUSTRY OF APPROXIMATELY 3-4 HOURS TO .4 HOURS.
STEEL DYNAMICS, INC.
A NEWLY CREATED COMPANY FORMED BY KEITH BUSSE AND HIS TEAM IN 1993. STEEL DYNAMICS WAS INCORPORATE AS A GREENFIELD PRIMARY PRODUCER OF FLAT-ROLLED CARBON STEELS, AND HAS SET A NEW STANDARD IN THE INDUSTRY AS IT WOULD RELATE TO CAPITAL COST PER ANNUAL TON OF CAPACITY. THIS NEW MILL, COSTING ONLY 280 MILLION DOLLARS, WAS CONSTRUCTED IN ONLY 14 MONTHS, A NEW INTERNATIONAL RECORD. THE START-UP OF THIS NEW ENTERPRISE SURPASSED ANY PREVIOUS STEELMAKING EFFORT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. IN A FOLLOW ON PROJECT IN 1996, S.D.I. SUCCESSFULLY RAISED AN ADDITIONAL 200 MILLION DOLLARS AND CONSTRUCTED A NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART COLD ROLLING AND FINISHING FACILITY. STEEL DYNAMICS ALSO RAISED AN ADDITIONAL 90 MILLION DOLLARS AND HAS CONSTRUCTED A FIRST OF ITS KIND FACILITY TO PRODUCE VIRGIN IRON UNITS FOR COMPSUMPTION IN ELECTRIC FURNACES. IN 1998, S.D.I. ANNOUNCED ITS PLANS TO BUILD A STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY DEDICATED TO THE PRODUCTION OF WIDE FLANGE BEAMS WITH AN ANNUAL CAPACITY OF 1 MILLION TONS. IT EXPECTS TO BE THE LOW COST PRODUCER IN THIS FIELD. IN 2003, SDI PURCHASED QUALITECH STEEL AND RE-STARTED PRODUCTION IN EARLY 2004. THIS ENDEAVOR BECAME HIGLY PROFITABLE IN ONLY A 4 MONTH PERIOD OF TIME. IN APRIL 2006, SDI AQUIRED ROANOKE ELECTRIC STEEL. SHOULD THINGS PROGRESS AS PLANNED, S.D.I. WILL BE A 3 BILLION DOLLAR ASSET BASED COMPANY WITH OVER 3 BILLION DOLLARS IN ANNUAL REVENUES BY THE YEAR 2007.
ESTIMATED STEEL PRODUCTION WILL BE 6,000,000 TONS, MAKING SDI THE NATIONS 5TH LARGEST CARBON STEEL PRODUCER.

John R McCombs is the Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Government Liquidation, a Liquidity Services Inc company, that is the exclusive partner of U.S. Department of Defense for the sale of all usable scrap military surplus. Mr. McCombs currently oversees the marketing, supply chain, customer service, contracts, and sales for Government Liquidation. Before joining Government Liquidation, Mr. McCombs served Yellow Freight and the U.S. Army in various management and executive positions. Mr. McCombs holds a Bachelor of Science from West Point, and a Masters of Business Administration from Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. Mr. McCombs is a retired Lt Colonel from the National Guard where he spent 24 years in both Active and Guard assignments including deployments to the Persian Gulf War and Bosnia.
Mr. Griscom is the Executive Director and Chief Administrative Officer of HBI Association Ltd., a not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote hot briquetted iron (HBI) and to assist steelmakers in the safe handling, shipping, and storage of HBI and its effective use. HBIA has its administrative office in Matthews, NC (Charlotte area), and includes in its membership all of the major exporters of HBI. In addition, the leading companies providing process technology, equipment, raw materials, and services for the production, sales, and transportation of HBI are HBIA members. Mr. Griscom has more than 30 years of experience in industrial marketing and marketing communications. He is the author or co-author of more than 50 papers and presentations and a similar number of editorials, feature articles, position statements, and speeches on various direct reduction-related subjects. He served as editor-in-chief of Direct From Midrex for 10 years. Mr. Griscom earned a B.A. degree from the University of Chattanooga (now UT-Chattanooga) and is a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Technology.
John T. Kopfle

Mr. Kopfle serves as Director – Corporate Development for Midrex Technologies, Inc. Midrex is based in Charlotte, NC, and is the leading process technology supplier for the production of direct reduced iron. MIDREX® Plants produced 60 percent of the world’s DRI in 2006. Mr. Kopfle oversees corporate planning, marketing, and non-traditional business development. During his 24 years at Midrex, Mr. Kopfle has also worked in research and development, process engineering, and sales. He earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Virginia Tech, an M.B.A. at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and is a registered Professional Engineer. Mr. Kopfle has authored 90 technical papers and contributed to three books, including “Direct Reduced Iron: Technology and Economics of Production and Use.” He is a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Technology, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and he serves on the board of the World Affairs Council of Charlotte.
Mr Miller has worked in the ferrous materials business for 29 years.
After serving in the US Marines Corps, he received a B.S. in Business from Univ of Colorado in 1976. Shortly after graduation, he started with the scrap brokerage firm, Luria Bros, Cleveland, OH. as a ferrous scrap trader.
In 1983, he became district manager for Mindlin Co, Pittsburgh, PA. From 1988 to 1993, Miller worked in several positions with Luntz Corp, Miller Metals Group and Tube City. In 1994, Mr Miller founded Ferrosource which in addition to scrap, further specialized in alternative iron sourcing.
In 1997, Ferrosource became US agent for sales for pig iron produced at JSC Tulachermet, Tula, Russia. Beginning in 2001, Ferrosource formed a series of joint ventures with international traders to distribute all grades of pig iron to the US foundry and steel mill markets.
Today, Ferrosource is a leading broker and distributor of pig iron and ferrous scrap to US consumers. Ferrosource has offices in Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Battle Creek, MI and Jupiter, FL, where Mr. Miller lives with is wife, Kori and son, Brett.

Albert Cozzi is a partner with Cozzi Consulting Group. Prior to Cozzi Consulting, Albert was the CEO of Metal Management, Inc. where his leadership and analytical skills helped the company increase its revenues in excess of $1 billion, reduced its financial debt, increased total market share and increased stock prices ten-fold.
Prior to Metal Management, Albert served as chairman and CEO of Cozzi Iron & Metal, Inc. Under his leadership, the company grew to generate $250 million a year total sales, earning Cozzi Iron & Metal the reputation as one of the most efficient and respected scrap metal operations in the U.S.
Albert received his Masters in Business Administration from University of Chicago. He is also the former chairman of the ferrous division of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), a trade association that represents 1600 members in the recycling industry.
Rich Brady has held numerous positions in the trading and procurement arenas in both the scrap and steel industries during the past 16 years. He joined Steel Dynamics, Inc. in 2004 as Manager of Ferrous Resources to establish an internal ferrous resources procurement group. Under his guidance, Rich’s team developed and implemented a supply chain process for the direct procurement of SDI’s steel scrap and other ferrous metallics. His group now coordinates the purchase and delivery of more than 5 million tons of ferrous resources each year with an annual budget exceeding $1.2 billion. In January 2006, Rich was promoted to his current position, Vice President of Ferrous Resources and Logistics, directing resource procurement activities in support of the company’s five steelmaking operations.
Rich began his career in sales and marketing with the Olin Corporation’s Brass Division in East Alton, IL servicing customers in the copper alloy sheet and strip markets. In January, 1994, he joined the David J. Joseph Company’s brokerage division. Advancing through the ferrous scrap trading ranks, he ultimately managed the company’s Chicago, IL and Birmingham, AL trading offices, sourcing materials for various agency and open market accounts. Rich holds a BSBA in Finance from the University of Missouri and served as an officer in the Army National Guard, where he achieved the rank of Captain. He resides in Ft. Wayne, IN with his wife Jill and two daughters.
