Steel Success Strategies infographic: When will China impact on US scrap prices?

The US steel industry expects China will become a net exporter of scrap by 2020, according to a survey of North American steel professionals.

China’s need for imported scrap is diminishing as the country’s domestic scrap reservoir increases. As Chinese scrap increases, the country’s need for imported scrap will decrease and have a major impact on US steel exports and the worldwide market.

According to our Steel Success Strategies XXIX survey of North American steelmakers, the main impact on scrap prices in the US will be slowing Chinese demand and Chinese economic slowdown.
