Letter to the Editor: Calls for collaboration fall on deaf and defensive ears

To the Editor:

I am writing to clarify some issues raised in Lisa Gordon's story, "Study hinting scrapyards driving crime draws flak" (AMM, Oct. 30).

To begin with, the study entitled "The Indianapolis Metal Theft Project: Metal Theft Database Pilot Study," which the reporter cites and quotes from, has absolutely nothing to do with analyzing scrapyards and metal theft, but rather is just as the title implies: a pilot study to establish the protocol for collecting information on metal thefts in Indianapolis.
