We always have a spring in our step here at AMM at the start of summer, an exciting time of year. Soon we will be announcing the winners in the fourth annual Awards for Steel Excellence program, as well as inducting the next group of honorees into our Steel Hall of Fame.
All of this will take place at Steel Success Strategies XXVIII in New York. The AMM Awards for Steel Excellence recognize best-in-class companies in steel and related industries. This years finalists--33 companies and three executives in 13 distinct categories spanning the steel supply chainÑwere drawn from the largest, most-competitive pool of applicants ever nominated.
A record number of nominations were submitted this year, making the judges deliberations more difficult based on the quantity and quality of the entries, said David Brooks, AMMs senior vice president, publisher and editor in chief. We are pleased to honor these excellent companies as finalists for the steel industrys most prestigious awards recognizing innovation and excellence.
This year, we will hand out awards to recognize creative and visionary thinking and work in the following categories:
>> Best Innovation: Process
>> Best Innovation: Product
>> Best Mergers & Acquisitions
>> Best Operational Improvements
>> Best Brownfield/Greenfield Technology Project
>> Environmental Responsibility/Stewardship
>> Logistics/Transportation Provider of the Year
>> Industry Ambassador/Advocate of the Year
>> Scrap Company of the Year
>> Ferrous Exporter of the Year
>> Service Center of the Year
>> Tube & Pipe Producer of the Year
>> Steel Producer of the Year
A panel of independent industry experts reviewed the large number of nominations before we chose the finalists. The winner in each category will be announced June 18 at the annual awards dinner during Steel Success Strategies. We also will induct three distinguished individuals who pioneered, developed or furthered the practices, strategies and interests of the steel industry into the Steel Hall of Fame.
