Wow! We asked you to strut your stuff. And you definitely didnt disappoint us.
Earlier this year, AMM announced 62 finalists across a total of 16 different categories drawn from a pool of nominations submitted by participants in American Metal Markets eighth annual Steel Excellence Awards program. The awards recognize world-class companies in and in support of the global steel industry.
We had a very strong response in both the number of nominations as well as the caliber, indicating the strengthening of our industrys performance and the creativity needed to support its long-term success, Raju Daswani, chief executive officer, American Metal Market, commented on the 2017 edition of the awards program.
This was a particularly strong year for the awards, reflecting increasing momentum in most segments of the industry, Bette Kovach, program manager and veteran steel communications executive, agreed. Kovach pointed out that this years program marked the addition of thee new categories to include different contributors to the industry in equipment, materials and services.
One natural partner is the legal profession, which has long supported many industry initiatives, she noted. Even after nearly 40 years in the steel industry, I always learn something new by reading the nominations.
One thing that really surprised me was that law firms have been working on behalf of steel industry clients as far back as 1918, Kovach said. I had always thought that the legal partnerships were rooted in the trade cases of the 1960s, 1970s and beyond.
Key themes sounded in many of this years nominations involved the integration of people and technology and a true focus on environmental preservation. The increasing use of technology and the attention to environmental responsibility bode well for our industry and our word, Kovach said.
