Fastmarkets is extending the consultation period for the proposed increase in frequency of its steel reinforcing bar (rebar), fob mill US price assessment to weekly, from twice-monthly, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The extended consultation period for this proposed price launch will end on Friday June 5; an update to this notice will be published the same day. This follows a one-month consultation period that began on April 1.

A weekly price would provide greater insight into the direction of the market at a time of increased volatility.

Fastmarkets’ current specifications for the assessment are as follows:

Assessment: Steel reinforcing bar (rebar), fob mill US
Quality: Grade 60, No5. ASTM A615 and equivalent. Size: #5
Quantity: Min 500 tons
Location: fob Midwest mill
Unit: USD per hundredweight
Publication: Twice a month. First and third Wednesday
Notes: Raw materials surcharges included

The proposed amended price specifications are as follows, with changes highlighted in bold:

Assessment: Steel reinforcing bar (rebar), fob mill US
Quality: Grade 60, No5. ASTM A615 and equivalent. Size: #5
Quantity: Min 500 tons
Location: fob Midwest mill
Unit: USD per hundredweight
Publication: Weekly, every Wednesday
Notes: Raw materials surcharges included
