Fastmarkets AMM is proposing a realignment of its stainless steel and nickel scrap dealer buying prices due to a lack of market liquidity.

The following stainless steel and nickel scrap dealer buying prices have been proposed for discontinuation across all regions of the United States and Canada:

Stainless steel scrap dealer buying prices

Assessment: 316 clips and solids 
Quality: Nickel 10.00-14.00%, chromium 16.00-18.00%, molybdenum 2.00- 3.00%, manganese max. 2.00%, carbon max. 0.08% 
Location: Delivered yard, US/Canada, specified city 
Unit: US cents per pound/USD per gross ton (Canadian cities in Canadian currency) 
Publication: Once a week, Tuesday

Assessment: 304 solids, clips 
Quality: Nickel min. 7.00%, chromium min. 16.00%, molybdenum max. 0.50%, copper max. 0.50%, phosphorous max. 0.45%, sulfur max. 0.30%

Quality: This higher nickel grade stainless is used in many heat treat applications. The higher nickel and higher chromium values provide good resistance to higher temperatures

Assessment: 310 Stainless Steel Solids 
Quality: The 310 stainless steel grade is a medium high nickel grade used in many heat-treat applications with high temperatures and higher corrosion resistance qualities

Industry marking: RA 310, HK 40

Quality: This grade is used extensively in the heat treat industry designed for high-temperature applications

Assessment: Invar Solids 
Quality: Invar and Invar 36 is a nickel-iron alloy that retains good strength and toughness. Applications include laser components and production process is similar to austenitic stainless steel grades

Assessment: Inconel 601 Solids 
Quality: This alloy has high temperature strength, retains ductility, and has excellent corrosion resistance

Assessment: 17-4PH Solids 
Quality: 17-4PH is a martensitic grade that is ductile and tough. Some common applications are golf clubs, firearms, pump parts, and chemical processing equipment

Fastmarkets AMM’s stainless steel and nickel scrap broker/processor and consumer prices will not be not affected by these changes. 

The 60-day consultation period for the proposed discontinuation of these prices runs from June 5 to August 4. An update to this notice will be published on that day. 

As part of this realignment, Fastmarkets AMM is also considering launching assessments of the following grades to its stainless scrap price offering: 

  • 201 stainless steel solids
  • 201 stainless steel solids w/ copper
  • 17-4 stainless turnings
  • 316 stainless turnings
  • 316 stainless solids export
  • Hastelloy C solids
  • Haxtelloy X solids
  • H-13 solids
