SMB plans Guinea alumina refinery for 2022

Société Minière de Boké (SMB) and Singapore’s Winning Shipping plan to construct an alumina refinery in Guinea by 2022. The SMB-Winning consortium will carry out feasibility studies for the refinery in Dapilon, in Guinea’s Boké Special Economic Zone, in 2018, with a view to starting construction in 2019 as part of a $3 billion investment.

“The local processing of raw materials is one of the biggest challenges for more inclusive growth in Africa as it creates more value locally while leading to a start of economic diversification,” SMB chairman Fadi Wazni said in a statement.
