Liberty acquires former US ArcelorMittal rod mill

Liberty House Group has closed on its acquisition of the former ArcelorMittal SA rod mill in Georgetown, South Carolina, United States.

“Securing the Georgetown furnace and mill is a major milestone for us, marking our first major step in the USA. The melting and rolling facilities here give us a formidable entry to the American market and provide a strong platform for expansion,” said Sanjeev Gupta, executive chairman of Liberty House parent company GFG Alliance.

The facility, which has an electric arc furnace with capacity of 540,000 tonnes per year and a rod mill with capacity of 680,000 tpy, is set to restart in spring 2018.
