Severstal increases output at Cherepovets mill

Russian steelmaker Severstal has increased the output of pre-painted galvanized iron at its Cherepovets unit by 50% with the addition of a new production line.

“After MCW#3 [metal coating workshop No3] reaches full capacity, there will be no need for import supplies, as the three largest Russian metal processing plants will be able to fully supply the Russian polymer-coated rolled steel market,” Severstal’s chief executive officer, Alexander Shevelev, said.

The new Severstal workshop is also equipped with a unit for hot-dipped galvanizing, which is scheduled to come into operation in February 2018. Once the 400,000 tonnes per year HDG line starts production, the company will have double its current HDG capacity.
