Steel of West Virginia ramps up Kentucky plant

Steel of West Virginia’s new galvanizing plant, Steel Ventures Inc, is ramping up operations at its 60,000 tonnes per year plant in Wurtland, Kentucky, which is the result of a $16 million expansion.

“We started dipping our first beam, our first steel, in the first week of September and the commissioning is going very well,” Steel of West Virginia president and chief executive officer Timothy R. Duke said. “We are ramping up production more as we speak.”

More than half of the steel processed is coming from Steel of West Virginia, but over time that proportion could change, Duke added.
