Van Merksteijn to build wire rod mill in the Netherlands

Dutch wire products supplier Van Merksteijn is to build a mesh-quality wire rod mill with capacity for 800,000 tonnes per year at the seaport of Eemshaven in the north of the Netherlands. The company hopes to start production at the mill in 2020 and is expected to use scrap-based electric-arc furnace (EAF) technology.

“The capacity we’re planning to build would help to cover the current mesh-quality wire rod shortage in the European market,” group commercial director Kris van Ginderdeuren said. “We are in final negotiations with the production technology provider and hope to have confirmation in the next one or two months,” he added.
