Malaysia raises long steel products capacity

Malaysia has increased its long steel products capacity via the start-up of Alliance Steel’s rolling units in the country’s Pahang state. The integrated mill, located at the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park, will be capable of producing wire rod, steel bar and H-beam at a rate of 3.5 million tonnes per year at full capacity.

The mill’s wire rod and No.2 bar mills have started production, according to Chinese equipment maker Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC). The wire rod mill has a maximum rolling speed of 105 metres per second while the bar mill is capped at 45 metres per second.
