Founded over 120 years ago, Harris offers an extensive line of equipment, including a full range of ferrous shears, ferrous balers, automobile shredders, high-density non-ferrous metals balers, high-density multi-material two-ram balers, open-end auto-tie balers, closed-door horizontal balers, vertical downstroke balers and conveyors. Harris believes that having such a diverse product line enables it to be able to better provide its customers with a solution for their particular equipment needs. This includes providing customers with products tailored to their individual requirements and, therefore, offering them the best value for their investment.
For example, Harris can offer small scrapyards shears with 500 to 900 tons of shearing force, while offering medium-sized yards equipment with 700 to 1,100 tons of shearing force. For larger applications, the company supplies equipment with 1,100 to 2,200 tons of shearing force.

Similarly, the company’s ferrous baler line offers high-throughput, high-density bales measuring 8in x 8in to 24in x 24in, and it has an auto shredder line with production ranges from 25 tons per hour to 300 tons per hour.

Harris also provides energy-saving technologies and designs equipment that is easy for its customers to maintain. This is complemented by the fact that it offers customers remote, online diagnostics, as well as over-the-phone and onsite service and support, and that its service department offers its customers comprehensive inspection services.

Through its Texas Shredder™ and Lindemann™ product lines, San Antonio, Texas-based Metso Minerals Industries Inc offers a very comprehensive line of scrap metal equipment, including a full range of pre-shredders, automobile shredders, shears, balers and briquetters, while also having the capability to develop custom solutions for its ferrous and non-ferrous scrap processing customers.
Metso also operates its own foundries to supply the castings for its equipment, which it says provides greater certainty and reliability of the equipment it produces. That is because Metso can stand behind each casting that it uses in its equipment because it knows how it was designed, cast and how it will perform.

Metso also offers field inspection, planned maintenance and remote and onsite trouble-shooting services for its equipment to reduce unforeseen situations and to identify problems before they may result in a breakdown.

The company has also created a performance services program that covers both continuous improvement and machine upgrades. This program was designed to improve the equipment’s reliability and to reduce its downtime by providing better data and action plans to take care of its equipment while also providing a roadmap to integrate the latest innovations in process technology.

Its diverse portfolio of auto shredders has the capability to handle from 10 tons per hour production, in its compact machines, to 300-plus tons per hour throughput in its largest shredders. Throughout its shredder line Metso strives to research, develop and integrate the most current technologies, including ballistic separation to generate lower copper scrap, closed-loop aspiration for improved non-ferrous commodities and X-ray technology for foundry-grade non-ferrous metals separation.

Metso’s EtaRip™ low-speed, high-torque pre-shredder allows customers to tear apart bundles or end-of-life vehicles before feeding them to the shredding plant, allowing for a more homogenized, easily processed feed for the shredder.
It has also made changes to certain other equipment lines, including introducing its N-Series line of shears and balers in 2016 to better serve smaller, more price-sensitive mid-market operators.
