Alonso Ancira Elizondo

Executive Chairman of the Board

Alonso Ancira is Chairman of the Board of Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA), the largest integrated steelmaking Company in México. Alonso became CEO and shareholder of AHMSA in 1991, when the Company was privatized. At that time, AHMSA had obsolete facilities and a capacity of less than 3 million metric tons of liquid steel per year; today AHMSA has a capacity of 6.5 million metric tons per year, and operating with state-of-the-art facilities and technologies due to the two intense modernization program carried out with investments of more than 4 billion US dollars from 1992. Currently, AHMSA has an investment program in technologies to manufacture special steels for the automotive, energy and transportation industries. Alonso has been 4 times president of Mexico's Chamber of Iron and Steel and is a board member of the World Steel Association, and the American Iron and Steel Institute; also, he’s a member of the Latin American Steel Association. He has maintained a positive leadership among mexican steel companies and in mexican industry in general. As a representative of the business sector, he participated in the negotiations that culminated in NAFTA. With a Law Degree, Alonso has a master degree in mines engineering by the University of Guanajuato and a Doctor degree in human letters by the Texas A&M University.
