NY general business conditions index hits 5-year high in October

Conditions for New York manufacturers improved significantly in October, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said in its monthly Empire State Manufacturing Survey.

The general business conditions index climbed 16 points to 34.6, its highest level in five years, the report said.

The new orders index rose 11 points, with the shipments index up 30 points to 35.1. Future indices rose to relatively high levels, indicating that respondents expect conditions to improve further in the coming months.....
