US No. 1 heavy melting steel scrap exports slump 13%

U.S. exports of No. 1 heavy melting steel scrap sank 13 percent in September from the previous month despite record shipments to South Korean steelmakers and foundries.

Shipments of the bellwether grade of cut ferrous scrap dipped to 529,382 tonnes from 608,628 tonnes in August, according to the latest figures from U.S. Commerce Department. Despite the September decline, year-to-date exports of 4,571,276 tonnes were 12.2 percent ahead of 4,074,759 tonnes shipped overseas in the first nine months of last year and 86.2 percent higher than 2,454,955 tonnes exported in....
