Alcoa strikes power accord for Massena smelters

Alcoa Inc., Pittsburgh, said Friday that it had struck an agreement with the state of New York and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) on a renewable energy contract to supply the company's aluminum smelters in Massena, N.Y.
The deal opens the way for Alcoa to invest about $600 million to modernize and upgrade its two smelters at Massena, boosting capacity to 274,000 tonnes per year and reducing emissions by more than 70 percent.....
