Ferrous scrap trade hurt by European environmental rules, recycling exec says

The European Union's environmental legislation is a barrier to ferrous scrap trade, both within the EU and with countries outside the region, according to a German scrap executive.
Christian Rubach, chief operating officer at Interseroh AG, said cargoes were being rejected either at their final destination or at the point of loading because of EU environmental rules. Much of the problem arises from differing interpretations adopted by local customs officials, some of whom view scrap as hazardous waste, he said.....
