Merchant bar prices could face February rise

Merchant bar prices will remain flat heading into the New Year, though buyers might wind up paying a little bit more come February.
Nucor Corp., Charlotte, N.C., which is generally considered the pricing leader, said in a letter to customers that it will increase its scrap surcharge on reinforcing bar and merchant bar by $10 per net ton (50 cents per hundredweight), but will drop the base price by the same amount.
