Zinc values surge to $1.53 per lb. in latest auction of military scrap

A recent auction of U.S. Defense Department material priced zinc scrap from Maine at $1.53 a pound, roughly triple the 49 cents secured in a mid-October auction of the same material at the same location.

Though the earlier result could have been the result of a high percentage of contamination, it more likely was a one-time bargain traceable to lack of attention by potential competitors.....
