Richard B. Evans' appointment to succeed Travis Engen as Alcan Inc.'s chief executive officer will bring an unusual management structure to an end.
Shortly after Engen took the helm of Montreal-based Alcan, Evans and Brian W. Sturgell, who became president and chief executive officer of Novelis Inc., Atlanta, were appointed senior vice presidents in the office of the president. Once Sturgell left, Michael Hanley took up Sturgell's role.
The two senior executives were each responsible for three of the six business units that formed the old Alcan.....
