Shanghai Sigma poised to double aluminum ingot output by end-'06

Shanghai Sigma Metals Inc., China's leading secondary aluminum producer, plans to more than double annual output to 300,000 tonnes by the end of 2006 as it ramps up production at its new plant.

The new facility, the world's largest secondary aluminum production plant, will boost output to 25,000 tonnes a month by the end of next year, up from a monthly average of slightly less than 12,000 tonnes in 2005, Tony Huang, Shanghai Sigma Metals' chief executive officer, said.

Shanghai Sigma's goal is to increase ingot production by another 10,000 tonnes a month in a second-stage expansion that would boost output to almost 500,000 tonnes a year by the end of the decade. That will make the company one of the world's largest secondary aluminum companies, alongside Daiki Aluminum Industry Co. Ltd., Osaka, Japan, and Wabash Alloys LLC, Wabash, Ind., Huang said.....
