Union seeking guarantees in Noranda sale

The union representing production workers at Falconbridge Ltd.'s Sudbury and Kidd Creek operations in Ontario has called on the Canadian government to attach "stringent performance requirements" to the proposed takeover of Noranda Inc., Falconbridge's parent company, by China Minmetals Corp.

The Canadian Auto Workers union (CAW) wants the government to ensure Noranda maintains the full operation of all mills, refineries and smelters, and proceeds with its plans to expand Canadian mining operations.....
