China's copper scrap imports on rise institute

China's copper scrap imports are expected to grow nearly 14 percent to 3.6 million tonnes this year from 3.16 million tonnes in 2003, according to a prediction by the Beijing Zhongse Metal Recycling Institute.
"Domestic demand for copper is very strong, particularly from the electrical appliance industry," Zhang Xi-zhong, the institute's director, said. He added that China would need to continue importing copper scrap in the future because its domestic scrap generation is unable to satisfy local demand.....
