Picketers raise bar in conflict at El Abra Mine

Picketers drawn from other Chilean mining operations have been involved in violent confrontations with police at the El Abra copper mine in northern Chile, leaving three people injured, according to Cipriano Zuluaga, local president of the Federacion Minera de Chile union.
As the strike entered its fifth day Friday, union members from other mines traveled to El Abra to support the more than 400 workers who walked off the job in an effort to force management to improve a pay-increase offer.....
